Diet tips for your body constitution


Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) categorizes body constitution into 9 different body constitutions. If you haven't read our previous article on why it is important to eat according to your own body constitution, click here. To find out what is your body constitution type, click here.


The tips below are only for reference purposes, please consult a professional TCM practitioner when necessary. Remember to eat everything in moderation and maintain a balanced timely diet.





TYPE A: QI DEFICIENCY

Diet tips for Qi Deficiency

For better relief of the symptoms, supplement diet adjustments with good lifestyle habits like sufficient rest and engaging in light activities like yoga, brisk walking, or taichi. Remember, eat everything in moderation and remember to maintain a balanced timely diet, cut down on spicy and oily foods if you’re a lover!


TYPE B: YANG DEFICIENCY

Diet tips for Yang Deficiency

For better relief of the symptoms, supplement diet adjustments with good lifestyle habits like avoid staying in air-conditioned rooms for prolonged hours, wear socks and sufficient clothing to keep warm (especially joints, neck, back, and stomach). Engaging in mild activities like jogging or brisk walking is also highly encouraged. ⁣


TYPE C: YIN DEFICIENCY

Diet tips for Yin Deficiency

For a better relief of the symptoms, supplement diet adjustments with good lifestyle habits like avoid staying up late and spend some time on your hobbies to help de-stress. You may also consider engaging in mild to moderate activities like swimming or jogging.



TYPE D: QI STAGNATION

Diet tips for Qi Stagnation

For better relief of the symptoms, supplement diet adjustments with more outdoor exercises like swimming, running, rock climbing, or martial arts. It is also highly encouraged to engage in group activities and sports to enhance your social life such as ball games or even playing Among Us with your friends! ⁣


TYPE E: DAMP-HEAT

Diet tips for Damp-Heat Deficiency

For a better relief of the symptoms, supplement diet adjustments with good lifestyle habits like avoiding late nights, having sufficient sleep, frequent exercising with sports like ball games and running. Try to keep your living environment dry and well-ventilated too.


TYPE F: PHLEGM-DAMPNESS

Diet tips for Phlegm-Dampness

For better relief of the symptoms, supplement diet adjustments with good lifestyle habits such as frequent aerobic exercises of longer duration. It is highly suggested that you cut down on sweet and greasy foods if you are a lover and consume more foods that are high in fiber! ⁣


TYPE G: BLOOD STASIS

Diet tips for Blood Stasis

For better relief of the symptoms, try supplement diet adjustments with an active lifestyle to prevent congestion of qi and blood. WFH can be challenging with back-to-back meetings but do remember to do simple stretches in between meetings and engage in light exercises such as brisk walking or jogging!



TYPE H: SPECIAL/INTRINSIC

Diet tips for the Special / Intrinsic

For better relief of symptoms, make sure to keep your living environment well-ventilated and clean. Remember to also do light exercises regularly to increase your immunity. Try avoiding contact with possible allergens and consume less spicy and stimulating food (e.g. mutton, buckwheat, and seafood) which can cause irritation.


TYPE I: NEUTRAL/BALANCED

Diet tips for the Healthy / Balanced

The Neutral or Balanced body constitution is when your body is in optimal balance condition. People of this body constitution type are least susceptible to illnesses as their bodies adjust well to changing stressors.


Following the diet and lifestyle tips recommended for the other 8 body constitution types will help to make the body constitution more neutral.
